What are some of the ways you save money for your trips?
Here are some of the things we do
Change jar - sometimes we add $1's and $5's
round up in the checkbook
We have $50 a week automatically put into a vacation account.

Same here pretty much (havent tried the checking account)
We do keep a change jar (old water jug) and every time I get extra cash (Other than change) I throw it in.
I usually take it to bank for the change to be counted and I give the guys on my platoon one guess each on how much money is in there. Closest one to the actual total eats dinner for free that night on me.
We take the engine to the bank and you should see them lurking over the bank counter as the change is running through the machine like little kids waiting for a lollipop.

We're pretty much do the same:
We have a jar we put our loose change in and we too have a seperate savings account.
Also, we book around 12-18 months before we go and pay a little of the balance each month.

I have a tupperware tub in my living room and each night after work I toss my change in.. It is over flowing now so I should probably cash it in..

Another thing we do is use our Disney Via Card to build points up that gets transferred to the Disney Rewards Prorgram. I think you get $1 for every $100 charged onto the card.
Dont get me wrong - we dont go nuts charging onto the visa but what I do is whenever we have to buy something (especially big) and we have the money for it, I charge to the Disney Visa Card rather than pay cash. I then put the money aside and pay it onto the Disney visa when the statement comes in.
By doing this, over the last 2 years we have accumilated over 300 points which equals $300 and then we transfer them to the points reward card when we are ready to spend em.

Years ago I joined a credit union at work, using payroll deduction. This was my vacation money, and if I didn't have enough in there then I didn't go on vacation! As I'd get pay increases, I increased my payroll deduction - although I haven't had to use that money lately (for vacations) so it's really accumulated.
In 1997 I joined DVC - it costs money up front, but then your lodging is prepaid through 2042 or 2054 (depending on the resort). I also have an annual pass which I renew every year. And, I have a Disney visa and use it for EVERYTHING, and pay off the entire balance each month. This lets me build up Disney reward dollars. Some of my trips are with my boyfriend, but some are solo (I live 3 hours away, and visit 6-8 times a year or more). For all of our trips we have no lodging or park admission expenses since it's already paid. For my solo trips I use the Disney rewards for all my food and other incidentals, so it's like "free". Honestly, I couldn't go anywhere other than WDW for less <g>!
If you'll be going to WDW often, for many years to come, then DVC really is a great deal. However, I wouldn't go into debt for it - but if you can save up the $$ to buy in, it'll save you lots of money in the long run.

We too do the spare change thing and the Disney Visa Rewards! In Michigan we are also charged a deposit on beverage cans and bottles so everytime we return them, the money from that goes to vacation spending fund as well. The other thing I always do is have a big garage sale and all the proceeds from that go towards spending money.

Anything less than a 5 dollar bill goes into the change thing. That way, I wasn't making trips to the snack machine - plus I was saving.
Yeah, I do the Disney Visa too, I just need to get better at paying it off each month.

**Looks like many of us are doing the same thing. We, too, have the big ole water jug, and throw all of our loose change in it. I make a point of not spending change unless I absolutely have to. I also like to throw 'greenery' in there. Sure makes it add up. When we haul it to the bank, I'm always surprised at how much was in there. And then I deposit it into the 'vacation fund'.
** We also do the Disney Visa(pay off every month), and I'm looking forward to using those dollars next trip.
**Years ago, when I was more of a coupon user, whatever I saved from using the coupons would get added to the vacation fund. For instance, if my grocery receipt showed I'd saved $8 due to coupons, I'd write a check for that amount to the vacation fund.
**Also opened up an ING internet savings account last year. The interest rate is sure better than my land-locked bank, and I have a deposit to this account come out of checking monthly. This will be a second vacation fund. Every little bit $$$ helps!

We also have a Disney Visa, and lately we have been using it for all our wedding related expenses (which if any of you have gotten married lately, you know there is a lot of money running through that card) and we hope to have some money to use toward a vacation next fall. We went to WDW last year, and we had over $100 from these rewards, which really helped with fun stuff like Mickey shirts, etc.
Also we look for really good deals...there is one going on now actually- it is a 5 night 6 day stay with entrance to the parks, a value resort, and the dining plan for 455 a person, which isn't bad at all. Of course, there are restrictions on when you can go, but for us that isn't a problem because we don't have any kids.

I started out just saving change and small bills in a jar, but then I started working over time at work and putting that money in too. But now the money is hidden in a special place and no one in the house but me knows where it is... LOL.

I save for my trip in several different ways. i save my change in a jar like it seems everyone else does and use my Disney Visa on acct. I also have money taken out of my pay each week into a savings vacation fund. Once it happens you dont even feel it in your budget.
I also do yard sales for extra money on trip and look for the best deals. Flexible dates and where you stay can really help you save some money.

Hello. I'm new to this board. I promised my dd that when she turned 10 we would go to Disneyworld. Well I didnt think time would fly by so fast. She will be 10 in Dec 2008. as long as we go before she'd 11 I wont feel break my promise. I didnt realize how expenive this trip would be. Value hotel for 6 night 635.00, regular based tickets(no hopper or extras) 609.00-5 day (2 Adult, 1 child). The airline is whats the most expensive, even more than hotel/tickets. I'm in CA and the cheapest flights are 415 per person. I would like to go Dec. 1-7th 2008 but I dont know now.
To fund this I plan on putting some money aside in a vacation acct, change jar, recycled can/bottles and sell some stuff on craigslist. The Visa card has caught my attention for the fact that its 0% for 6 month and just a monthy -payment. Now for that do i need to book a disney package through Disneyworld or a travel agent? What if i paid for a disney value room and tickets seperatly would it still count? Any tips or adivice would be appreciated.

i have 3 of those tins that u cant open til there full and then u have to use a can opener. 1 tin is for my tickets, one is for my DS spending money and one is food. it'll all help. if you go to a site called yougov u can do online surveys for cash.

I save up in loads of ways, currently saving to hopefully return to Disney World for my 2nd trip in 2010. I sell unwanted items on ebay this varies in ammount but can help loads towards the cost. Last week I won £25 at a pub quiz which I'm also putting towards it. I will sometimes agree to do a couple of days overtime at work and put the extra money towards it. My grandparents will send me some pocket money every month which goes towards it and money I get for my birthday and christmas I put towards it too. I have been saving so far for just over a year and currently have approximately £825 saved up. I need approximately £1200 + £500 spending money so I'm well on target for being able to go in 2010 :D
